Review: Zoku Popiscle Maker

If you are like us, you are always looking for nutritious and delicious treats for the kids between meals. We recently purchased the Zoku Quick Ice Pop Maker and we just had to share this with you. We will not be the first to review the device, and I am sure we won’t be the last. The Zoku Quick Ice Pop Maker is a non-electric device that produces ice pops made with juices, yogurts, puddings, and other mixes that YOU provide – so you know exactly what you are feeding your family. What makes the device particularly unique is that it produces the popsicles right before your eyes in less than 10 minutes (advertised as 7 minutes).

The device is well thought out and well made. It is sturdy – it comes with the base that is stored in the freezer for 24 hours prior to use, it makes three popsicles but comes with six sturdy sticks, six drip guards, and a removal tool. Keep in mind, that no one said it was mess-free so the drip guards will only go so far in protecting you from the melting pop. The device is about the size of a quart of ice cream – so not unreasonable – and hopefully will take the place of that not-so-good-for-you ice cream.

How does it work? The base is placed in freezer for 24 hours. It contains a proprietary fluid and its lined with a non-stick food safe aluminum coating. You pour your first juice in, let it freeze then pour in additional flavors afterwards. The base should be able to produce 12 pops each time you take it out of the freezer, however, the package only comes with 6 popsicle sticks for now. You can get really creative in mixing flavors and the kids will have hours of fun with this new toy.

Now, the catch. The device will cost $49.95 plus shipping and handling ($10.50). So you will be spending in excess of $60. However, keep in mind that you will be saving tremendously because you won’t be purchasing popsicles at the grocery store, only the juices (or the fruit to make the juice) – so there is a real cost saving factor here. Also, there is quite a bit of entertainment value in making the desserts with your children. Currently, the device is only available at Williams-Sonoma.

Happy Summer and Happy Popsicling!
