The Little Steps and Pre-Dance classes at the School at Steps are the best ballet classes on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. It is a formal and proper program, with dress codes, hair in buns and no talking in class, and the little ballerinas absolutely love it. If you get a peek into the class, you will see girls (and boys) looking at themselves in the mirror, smiling, and building tremendous self-confidence and strength.
Steps also gives holiday treats to their little ballerinas for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day, and roses during observation week. The progression from 2s to 3s to 4s is impressive, with children doing yoga-like poses that build core strength and flexibility, in addition to learning traditional steps like first position, releves and sautes. Miss Heather is fabulous for 2s-3s, and Miss Martha is great for 4s-5s.
Well worth it!

Thank you so much! I have been looking for affordable summer ballet classes for 2 year olds!
My 3 year old daughter is in her second semester at Steps, and she literally runs to get there! Her teacher, Ms. Lisa, is incredible with the kids. She gets the kids to be so engaged and excited, while maintaining order in the studio. Amazing! (I have actually observed her and asked her, straight out, what her secret is).
I am hoping that Steps is part of my daughter’s life for years to come!
