Sitters with a Savvy Twist: Introducing Creative Sitters!
Arts Educator launches Customized NYC Babysitting Service where Children Explore Creativity through Art Activities

August 2011 – New York, NY – Calling all moms who fear their babysitters turn on the TV as soon as they walk out the door! Introducing Creative Sitters, a creative arts education New York City babysitting service using arts activities to promote learning, exploration and growth at home. Creative Sitters new york city childcare providers use a pairing system matching kids to a specific sitter that best meets the needs of the child. Parents have the opportunity to meet sitters during speed sitter events or Creative Sitters will recommend a sitter for parents.

Creative Sitters is the brainchild of arts educator and avid babysitter, Renee Pena. Pena began babysitting as a part time job while she was working at a number of art-based kids organizations including El Museo del Barrio, City Lights Youth Theater, Notes in Motion, and Discovery Programs. Parents quickly took notice of Pena’s unique approach to babysitting, and she was soon over-booked turning away childcare opportunities. As demand grew, Pena knew other art educators who loved kids and wanted to use their education in a different capacity than the classroom. Once she developed a roster of sitters that shared the similar background and experience to Pena, Creative Sitters was born.

Creative Sitters uses a “multi-intelligence” approach as a way to engage children in the artistic process of self-discovery and self-expression. This rejects the traditional notion of intelligence (based on I.Q.), and suggests eight different intelligences to broaden the teaching approach. For example, certain kids may be “picture smart” while others may be “music smart.” Creative Sitters interacts with the child based on these different types of “intelligences.” After each babysitting session, the babysitter provides an activity report.

“We have an extensive network of sitters that each have a unique specialty. For instance, some of our sitters are experienced in dealing separation issues while others focus on academic needs,” said Renee Pena, Founder of Creative Sitters. “Our mission at Creative Sitters is to create the ideal sitter and child match that will best help support the child’s growth,” added Pena.
Pricing for Creative Sitters is competitive with New York City babysitters or nannies. The company offers a two-tiered level of pricing including:
