In the age of computers and reading tablets like the iPad and the Kindle, it can be tough keeping our young ones’ interests occupied with real books. Melodic prose, engaging artwork, fantasy subject-matter, and interactive additions have all worked remarkably well but it really is hard to match the excitement and awe brought on by a picture leaping right off the page as you would find in a well done pop-up book. In my opinion, few do it better than Robert Sabuda. He (and in some cases Matthew Reingold) has brought the stories of Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, The Jungle Book, The Chronicles of Narnia and the soon to be released Beauty and the Beast to life in a magical way. There are countless others to explore including the popular dinosaur, insect, holiday and Star Wars pop-up books. His creations far outdo those done by previous authors as they go beyond book art and prove that he is a downright architect.

So, for those children who seem to have everything, here is a refreshing and guaranteed to be popular idea for a gift-giving occasion be it birthday or other special day. I assure you, when your children get a choice of books to read, more often than not, these books are the ones that will be chosen going forward.
If you have an unplanned rainy afternoon – here are some good projects. Keep well stocked in heavier paperboard though.
