Karma Kids provides classes from tots to teens through age-appropriate yoga exercises that parents can participate. For the younger folk, Karma crafts activities that keep their interest while continuing to maintain the yogi experience in a way that hopefully children will carry throughout their lifetimes. For the youngest yogis, “Yoga Adventures” allows children to choose a destination and mimic sounds and movements of the animals they might meet there. More challenging activities are offered to the older children where a more traditional yoga workout might be appropriate. The Studio is bright and fun. The website provides pictures and videos of the experiences.
In their words, “At Karma Kids Yoga, they practice fun-filled yoga poses and breathing exercises to promote: Physical Strength and Flexibility; Concentration, Focus and Attention; Inner Strength and Body Awareness; Confidence and Self-Esteem; Relaxation and Self-Control; A Feeling of Well-Being and Respect for Others; and Love for One’s Self, Inside and Out.” Sounds good to me.
There are multiple programs in the form of scheduled and private classes as well as themed activities. Some examples include Mom & Baby Yoga, Baby Fingers Sign Language Classes, Storytime with puppets, songs and yoga poses, Pajama Yoga and even Glow in the Dark Yoga.
May we suggest that your child and your first yoga experience might best be done through a trial class. There happens to be a free trial class available on Monday, January 17th @ 3:30pm for 4-6 yr olds and 4:30pm for 7-9 yr olds. Call for availability and other times.
A FREE Trial Mom & Baby Yoga class is being conducted Monday, January 17th @ 11:30a at the 14th Street studio; 12:30p at the Brooklyn Dojo, 93 Pineapple Walk.
The Glow in the Dark Yoga is described as a full sensory experience for children four to six years of age. Children will explore ideas about compassion, kindness, gratefulness and love, while glowing-in-the-dark! Simple and challenging yoga poses combined with songs, puppets, stories, games, and activities that exercise social and motor skills while increasing flexibility, concentration, and self-esteem. This playful class encourages self-expression and relaxation while strengthening young bodies. Classes begin on Tuesday, February 1st, and run through May 31st @ JCC Manhattan.
Birthday parties can be arranged for fees of $500-$900 depending upon size of party, hours and extras. In addition, professional staff can conduct a yoga party in your home.
