Iphone Apps: I’ll Show You Mine……

Few recent technologies have produced such efficiency breakthroughs since the cell phone than the iPhone. There are, of course, many other devices that can get the job done, but none with more useful (and unuseful) applications than the iPhone. And every efficient roadwarrior parent needs to be stacked with the right iPhone applications to get all the jobs done while on the road and out and about. As a result of the nearly unlimited applications available at iTunes, I can do just about anything while I am out and about. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite apps and I hope you will share with me a couple of yours.

RedLaser – I find items when out shopping that I know I can get on the internet for much less than it costs here in NYC. Wouldn’t it be nice to use your iPhone and scan the UPC code on a toy or something in the foodstore? There is an application that exists and it is just as amazing as you could imagine it would be. I have found very few items that it could not identify and pinpoint where to buy on the internet. It costs $0.99 and its well worth it.

Mint.com – This application is free and the only issue you may struggle with is providing your passwords for all of your accounts. The company has won numerous awards for the software that is both online @ mint.com and for the iPhone @ iTunes. The software for the iPhone allows you to track your net worth, all credits and debits from your bank account, all charges to your credit cards, categorize all of your charges, and even receive reminders of upcoming payments.

JotNot – $4.99 for full version – Probably the most expensive application I have ever purchased for my iPhone but definitely a life saver. This program basically makes your iPhone into a scanner. There is some behind the scenes technology that improves the image to remove shadows and correct contrast to make the images look crisp and clear so it is much much more than simply taking a picture of a document. Its like having a scanner and fax machine at your disposal.

NYCWAY – This application is free and is loaded with functionality. The functions I find helpful are the live traffic cams (when I am traveling outside of NYC and need to know the best way out or in), WiFi hotspot locations, ZipCar locations, bathroom locations and many many more.

iSmart Kids ID – $1.99 – Allows you to store vital information about child or any other person. Allows you to provide information to children caretakers, babysitters, and family members. In case of an accident, medical, insurance and emergency contact information is all readily available for police or emergency personnel. Do you provide it to caretakers when you are not around? We all should.
